EFC Lecture Series - George Weiner - Cancer Immunotherapy Comes of Age
The immune system normally detects and destroys bacteria and cells infected with viruses. However, cancer cells are able to avoid destruction by the immune system. Basic research exploring how cancer cells and the immune system interact has led to the development of new drugs and treatment modalities that use the power of the immune system to treat cancer. Dr. Weiner will review the successes, challenges, and opportunities related to using the immune system to treat cancer.

Participants will alternate tours of the photo studio and Iowa Ceramics Center. If you would like an immersive experience, for a $25 fee, there is a 45-minute opportunity to use a pottery wheel. Participants will learn how to pull up a small cup or bowl. Clay will be returned at the end of the session. Welcome, everyone! We are happy to have a group of people signed up to participate in the Explorers special interest group.
Our first outing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at Kent Park (located 3 miles west of Tiffin on Highway 6). The walk around the lake is 1.4 miles. It's a circular path and easy to only walk part way and return to the parking area. Bring water to drink.
