Services and discounts are available to UI retirees.

Retirees may continue to access campus resources, such as the libraries, recreation facilities, and IT services, and receive discounts from a variety of vendors.

University ID Cards for Retirees

University retirees are eligible to obtain an Iowa One card as a form of identification as a university retiree. This is particularly useful for UI Health Care employees who must relinquish their badges upon retirement, whereas other university employees may retain their prior university ID or choose to get an updated One Card. The Iowa One card facilitates access to campus resources and services, such as the University Libraries and Rec Services facilities.

Athletics Tickets

If you purchased season tickets for the five years prior to retirement, you may be able to continue to purchase tickets at the staff rate. For more information, call (319) 335-9309.

Employee Discounts

University Human Resources manages the University of Iowa Employee Discount Program, which offers discounts and other promotional offers to university employees and retirees. Most require you to show your university ID. Many vendors not listed will also give a UI discount—just ask!

Information Technology Resources

As a University of Iowa retiree, you can:

  • Keep your university email: Upon retirement, you can choose to keep your uiowa.edu email account open at no charge. You can continue to access your account or route email to your university address to a different personal account (e.g., a Gmail account you use).
  • Buy discounted computers: Retirees are eligible for educational discounts on computers and other devices from select manufacturers.
  • Access campus computer labs and wireless networks: Retirees have access to the ITC computer labs and the UI Wireless network using their HawkIDs and passwords.

Recreational Services Memberships

University of Iowa Recreational Services memberships are available to retirees. Membership provides access to all campus recreation facilities and to group exercise classes at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC). Members also receive discounts on program registration (including lessons, rowing, tennis, aquatics, and adventure trips) and reduced tennis court fees.

Recreational Services facilities include the CRWC, Field House, Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex, and Fitness East. Most activities—including swimming, fitness, rock climbing, racquetball, basketball, volleyball, and group classes—are included with membership.

For more information, call 319-335-9291 or 319-335-9293 or visit the Recreational Services website.

Senior College

Senior College provides high-quality educational opportunities for seniors. Courses cover a wide variety of topics in the humanities, sciences, and the arts and are taught by emeritus and current University of Iowa faculty members and others.

University Libraries

With a university ID, retirees may check out library materials and continue to utilize on-campus resources. For further information, see the libraries' guide to services for retired and emeritus UI faculty and staff.
