The UIRA has recently begun forming Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Each meets periodically to further its shared interests and purposes. Two SIGs are currently active. If you and your UIRA friends have a specific idea for organizing a new group, please tell any board member.
International Events: There’s a lot going on beyond our borders. What world news in the past few weeks has caught your interest? Why do you see it as significant? What background information helps to make sense of it? How does it fit into some larger picture? Let’s share perspectives on the world we live in. We meet on the second Thursday of each month (September through May), from 1:30-3:15 p.m., at Hills Bank (Muscatine Ave branch); first conference room on your left as you enter. Interested? Convenor: Phil Klein.
Step Up Walkers: Fall is here and with the prospect of an Iowa winter, this new UIRA interest group is a timely addition to the three special interest groups formed last year. The Gray Hawk Steppers will meet every Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the Coralville Coral Ridge Mall and walk around the mall until 10 a.m. when the stores open. Members will walk in small groups and each will set an appropriate pace. At a medium pace, each mall lap takes approximately 15 minutes. Our group will walk from the months of October thru April. Members interested in joining this group should contact Beverly Robalino at firstname.lastname@example.org.
