Every reader of the novels of Jane Austen knows that a proper heroine plays the pianoforte. But what did Austen actually know about music? In this lecture-recital, musicologist Marian Wilson Kimber will explore the music owned by the renowned novelist, including compositions she copied out to play herself. Wilson Kimber will be accompanied by soprano Sarah Hachtman singing elegant and witty eighteenth-century songs from Austen’s personal collection.
