Every reader of the novels of Jane Austen knows that a proper heroine plays the pianoforte—but what did Austen herself know about music? In this engaging lecture-recital, musicologist Marian Wilson Kimber will explore the music owned by the renowned novelist, including compositions she copied to play herself. Wilson Kimber will be joined by soprano Sarah Hachtman, who will perform elegant and witty eighteenth-century songs from Austen’s personal collection.
