As Hancher’s director of programming and engagement, Aaron Greenwald oversees all programming presented by Hancher, including concerts and performances of every genre and variety, a robust Broadway season, and over 100 discreet annual engagements between visiting artists and students, faculty, and staff at the university.
Aaron Greenwald came to the university in October 2019. Previously, he served as managing director of the Big Ears Festival—described by The New York Times as “one of the world’s greatest music bashes”—in Knoxville, Tennessee. Before that, he was executive director of Duke Performances at Duke Aaron Greenwald University (2006–2019). Prior to that, Greenwald helped conceive and produce the New Yorker Festival and The New York Comedy Festival. Straight out of college, he spent several years producing country music videos in Nashville including the iconic video for Kenny Chesney’s iconic tune “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” Greenwald received a BA in theater from Columbia University and was awarded a postgraduate Fulbright to study theater post-Apartheid in South Africa.
