Beginning with the UI Benefits Update on November 7 and continuing through the end-of-year picnic in June, we will be collecting cash donations, nonperishable food items, and toiletries at each of our programs and events for the Food Pantry at Iowa.  Cash donations are preferred since the pantry is able to buy needed items in bulk but food and toiletry items are certainly welcome.  Checks should be made payable to the Food Pantry at Iowa.  If you prefer, you can donate through the UI Center for Advancement and specify that your donation go to the Food Pantry at Iowa.  You can drop you donations at the name tag table when you arrive at the program.  The Food Pantry at Iowa was started by a group of UI students after "recognizing a need that needed to be met: fellow students and peers at the University were going  hungry, unable to pay for the basic necessities to survive and attend college at the same time." In fact, in a 2013 study done by Prof. Sarah Bruch, 65% of UI students reported that they skipped or cut the size of meals because there wasn't enough money for food. The Food Pantry at Iowa opened in Fall 2016 and currently has two locations: Food Pantry East in the Iowa Memorial Union and Food Pantry West in the Pride House at 125 Grand Avenue.
